In Malay perfumery, musk is kasturi. White musk (kasturi putih) is its clean, laundry-fresh side, usually the first thing people notice in Madinah. Kasturi kijang is the older, richer name. Literally "deer musk", it describes the deep, warm, faintly animalic style an earlier generation prized in the finest attars.
