The bakhoor: light the charcoal disc and wait about 5 minutes until it is covered in a light grey ash before you place any chips — bare red charcoal burns the chip in seconds with sharp smoke. Place one or two chips on top. Close the doors and windows while burning so the fragrance stays in, and keep the mabkhara away from the fan.

The perfume: spray onto pulse points — wrists, neck and behind the ears — and add a light mist over clothing for a longer trail. Don't rub your wrists together, as it breaks the scent down.

Burning bakhoor produces very high heat and there is a fire risk if it is misused. Always use a mabkhara or a heat-resistant dish — gloves or tongs are recommended. Always keep children and pets away, and never leave it burning unattended.

The perfume: for external use only. Keep away from the eyes and out of reach of children, and store it away from heat, direct sunlight and open flame. If you have sensitive skin, test a small area first.
